  • Rod Bourn

    Rod is founder and Lead Ninja of Down Set Lead. He helps leaders, professionals, and organizations get unstuck and grow into what they want to be. That happens though coaching, executive trips and retreats, training, and facilitating mentoring programs.

    Rod manages continuing education curriculum and specializes in workforce development and contract training. He coordinates large conferences and events, including fundraisers and galas. Rod also serves as Project Director (through CCBC) of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Baltimore program.

    Rod is the author of Down Set Lead!, a guide to the chronology of team leadership, written especially for young professionals, all with a football motif and a few movie quotes thrown in for good measure. Rod shares this methodology for creating a well-oiled, high-performing team.

    Business coach and strategy consultant Lee Crumbaugh, SMP, CEO of Forrest Consulting since 1988, has helped 100s of companies, associations, non-profits, leaders, owners, and entrepreneurs be more successful. His mission is to help leaders and professionals achieve their vision of great success by developing and implementing strategic plans.

    Armed with a University of Chicago MBA and a University of Illinois communications degree, Lee has been a leader in banking, associations, publishing, and philanthropy. He has launched a publishing company and a business group as well as his consulting and coaching firm.

We meet to get to know one another and determine compatibility, begin to develop an understanding of your situation and goals, and provide information on our coaching process.

We agree on the initial length of engagement (at least three to six months and ideally a year are recommended for meaningful progress and to instill processes and good habits) and frequency of meetings (3-4 meetings a month are recommended to maintain momentum).

We have you complete a thorough intake questionnaire and provide more information on your business, position and or practice.

We begin regular meetings in which we document our discussions as we develop your plan and actions steps, work through your challenges and opportunities, set goals, track your progress, share business processes, tools and resources to help you plan, implement and measure results, and provide support and accountability.

GROUP COACHING RELATIONSHIP, IN A STRATEGIC BUSINESS LEADER GROUP:

We meet to get to know one another, develop an understanding of your situation, and provide information on our coaching process.

You complete an intake questionnaire in which you offer thoughts about your vision of great success and goals. Then you meet with your coach to develop your plan and implementation action steps.

You meet monthly in 3 - 3.5 hour meetings with 3 - 11 business peers. Here’s a typical meeting agenda:

  • Introductions/check-in (what's on your mind?) 8:30 - 9:00

  • Open session. Each member raises a current problem and/or opportunity for feedback 9:00 - 9:40

  • Topics for group consideration: Presentations and discussion 9:40 - 10:20 (Examples: achieving long-term success; developing good habits; productivity; goal setting; KPIs.)

  • "Hot Seat” in which a member gets deep input from the group on a key business issue or opportunity 10:20-11:00

  • One-on-ones and accountability calls 11:00-11:15 Pairing of group members for weekly accountability calls.

  • Commitments 11:15-Noon Members report progress on 30-day accountability goals and commit to new 30-day goals.
